The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I woke up this morning with the exhilarating excitement I felt as a child…It's Christmas Eve! I felt an instant rush of gratitude for the wonderful gifts I have received during this holiday season, and my thoughts turned to friends and family who bless me in so many ways throughout the year. It is the perfect day to express my thankfulness to all of you and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Babyjesus Luke 2:16-20 (New International Version)

16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Bright & Shiny Dresses!

Jcrew_8 J.Crew's Wedding Shop has the cutest party dresses this holiday season! We realize how difficult it is to find the perfect bridesmaid dress for each personality in your bridal party without breaking the bank. J.Crew gets it too, offering various styles to complement every body type. We love the bright, cheerful colors of the silk taffeta ballerina dress. Pair it with a floral sling-back heel and you are ready for an outdoor garden party!

Just a note— dress pockets may seem like a silly detail but actually come in handy to hold your tissue paper and lipstick during the ceremony.

Editor's Picks: Destination Gowns

The kind of girl who hosts a far-flung affair in an exotic locale is no stranger to the unconventional. She is no stranger to the latest fashions either.  We know the type all too well. Did you know that Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr. were among the first sweethearts to tie the knot away from home? Carolyn wore an unexpected slipdress designed by Narcisco Rodriguez, reseting the standards for the traditional wedding gown.

It's nice to be considered the first in fashion, so we've selected this season's ideal gowns for a destination wedding. No typical dress will do! Keep in mind nature's elements— sun and sand, and of course, the pack-ability of your dress. Also, you have the difficult task of choosing a style that can easily go from day to night. A breeze, right?  xo Shaunna

White Wedding Confections

MeringueBrides have so many wonderful creative options to honor and indulge their guests. A candy buffet is a fun way to express your personal tastes (literally!) and we love the idea of using sweets to reiterate your color theme. The new Winter Spring edition of Pacific WEDDINGS will be on shelves by the end of December and we featured a scrumptious array of white wedding confections your guests will adore. For the story, Chef Michelle Nakaya of Ginniberries Catering in Honolulu created these pillowy meringue cookies topped with buttercream icing and white rock candy. For something truly simple, did you know m & m's offers their classic candies personalized in 22 beautiful colors? Present them in old-fashioned candy jars to add a bit of elegance. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand, right?

A Milky Complexion

Bodymilkwboxcc2_3 It was difficult to resist the urge to open this post with the famous Milk campaign— "Got Milk?" (Oops, I just did!) But really, in the case of FarmHouse Fresh, the slogan rings true. The country cosmeticians offer whimsical gift ideas inspired by their favorite childhood foods. Their Sweet Cream Body Milk was developed for supple skin, infused with such natural oils as Vitamin E, jajoba seed oil, almond, avocado and sesame. It feels creamy and smooth minus the thickness of traditional lotions. The corked glass cruet jar with glass stopper will add a decorative touch to your makeup shelf, or consider presenting this old-fashioned goodie to one of the many people who have assisted you with your wedding. The cute gift box reads, "Our Cows Eat Cookies". How delicious!

Couture Cakes

  Channel_cakes_2

It is safe to say that every girl loves fashion. And even safer to say that every girl loves chocolate. The combination in the form of a wedding cake may elicit quite a frenzy amongst your wedding celebrants, particularly the style set. Why not have your cake designer interpret your favorite fashion label through fondant and edible pearls? When cake proprietor, Carmen Emerson-Bass flipped through the pages of Chanel by Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton, she found classic elements from the luxurious fashion house to inspire a couture cake for our Art + Design issue.

There is no greater iconographic brand than the House of Chanel and no more influential couturier than Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel herself. A glamourous persona, Coco Chanel is praised just as much for her unique and individual designs as she is for her meticulous handiwork and attention to detail. The same can be said about each one of Emerson-Bass’ wondrous creations!

Sugar Rush

While we're usually a generous group of office mates, our (mostly female) staff rushes to sign for any package bearing the classic Big Island Candies logo! We featured their white confections in the Winter/Spring 2008 issue of Pacific WEDDINGS™ (on newsstands in just a few weeks). The illustrious chocolatiers are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, and they have earned a reputation for their delicious candies and cookies made with Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts, Kona coffee, lots of fresh butter and scrumptious chocolate. Whether or not you are hosting your wedding in Hawaii, the elegant packaging and fabulous flavors of Big Island Candies makes them a tasteful wedding favor. You can visit the chocolate factory and gift shop in the sleepy town of Hilo, Hawaii, where the spirit of aloha still reigns. Make sure to ask about their custom packaging—they are happy to create a look especially for your wedding theme.

Island Girls

Dscf6365

Every girl has a bit of hippie chic in her. Whether you are planning a visit to Hawaii or you are fortunate enough to live here, the islands call for a boho look. The jewelry designers of Wings Hawaii create alluring pieces inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds them on Maui's North Shore. Crafted from ornate gemstones, delicate coral, sterling silver and 14 karat gold, each piece is unique. All jewelry is handmade on Maui, making it the perfect gift for that island girl in all of us!  xo Shaunna

A Modern Approach to Holiday Décor

Kaypeesoh_3If the festive season has given you a reprieve from wedding plans and you're looking for a modern way to illuminate your space, check out one of my personal favorites, Pacific Home, in Honolulu. They recently acquired designer Kaypee Soh's Creative Living Collection. His "art for your sofa" is being launched this month with a stunning holiday table display created exclusively for Pacific Home on Ward Avenue. "The table is designed around a collection I call 'Holiday Hibiscus' and it includes a pendant lamp, table runner, pillows and napkins." We love the cheerful pieces—a fresh alternative to the usual Christmas décor! Soh's pillow collection will be available at Pacific Home beginning January, 2008. The talented artist and photographer says, "I'm also working on designs for rugs, lamps and other accessories to complement my art collection; I'll keep you posted when the new items become available." We appreciate the fact that all his designs are handmade in Hawaii and produced in limited quantities. For custom designs contact Kaypee at his studio 808.689.3639 or visit www.kaypeesoh.com.
